I have a Mercruiser 470, and I'm getting ready to re-install the exhaust manifold (cast iron manifold; Mercruiser part 71527). When I bought my "project" boat, the shift plate and shift cables were never connected on the engine, and the shift plate was laying in the cabin. Where does the shift plate normally attach for these Mercruiser 470s? There's actually 2 long studs that are mounted in the head that the exhaust manifold slides over when pulling off that have nuts hold the manifold on (the rest are bolts that attach it). If I remember correctly, the long studs go though holes #3 and #5 from the right to left row of holes. My best guess is that the shift plate would mount onto the 2 studs holding the manifold in place and held in place by the nuts.
Any idea?
