Question 1

Why is the mechanical fuel pump look like it is mounted up side down . (fuel filter bowl on top) I know it right the engine ran fine for 4 months before the pump gave up. It just appears to be mounted in this uncommon position compared to most mechanical f/p i'v seen and installed years ago on automobile engines.

Question 2

New F/P comes with three thin flange gaskets , do i use just 1 gasket. are the other two gaskets used for spacing to lower f/p pressure if its too high.

Appreciate a knowledgeable answer. Thank you

Upside down looking mounted fuel pump on a 1982 mercruiser 470 4cyl inboard Engine

It just appears to be mounted in this uncommon position compared to most mechanical f/p i'v seen and installed years ago on automobile engines. There got to be a reason why they want the fuel filter bowl on top of the fuel pump. Anyone know ?

I can't say on the 3.7 but on the 4.3 V6, the fuel pump for sure is mounted upside down from the way its mounted on the V8s. Not sure why but that's how it is.

First - Don't start multiple threads on the same subject.

Second - What makes you think it's upside down? How long have you been changing "normal" fuel pumps?

Third - Changing filters when the filter bowl is on top eases changing the filter in cramped engine compartments.

That pump is on right side up, you're looking at it upside down. The lines are pressurized, they don't care about no steenkin' gravity. Yes, the gaskets are to adjust fuel pressure.
