I have a 1982 Mercury 40 2-cycle SN 6084617 that I need to replace the Exhaust Manifold Gaskets on. I previously replaced a the gasket on the Cylinder Block Cover that was leaking water around the spark plug, now the leak has moved to the Exhaust Manifold Gasket...
My question is, do I have to drop the whole driveshaft housing/lower unit in order to remove the manifold cover and replace the gaskets? Right now, the Bottom Cowl seems to prevent access to some of the bolts on the manifold. I have minimal experience with motors, but I'm learning, and dropping the driveshaft housing feels a little intimidating at this point.
If I do need to drop the driveshaft housing/lower unit, is #16 the only gasket I will need to replace? Or will I also be getting into gasket #7 and need to replace it as well? (see below)
Thanks in advance for any tips, tricks and advice!
