1982 OMC sterndrive model 983159

Hello , new here ,I have just restored a 1982 Grew 185 BR ,it has 3.8 litre V6 and the noted sterndrive. I have not put in water yet but have run it with rabbit ears, the engine runs excellent however when I attempt to engage it into forward or reverse the engine stalls like the ignition was turned off. Any feedback would be appreciated, I'm not certain if it will only engage when in water or another possible issue exists. Thanks for any help you can give me

Sounds like the ESA switches need adjustment

Get the factory manual, or at a minimum go to sterndrive.info and watched the videos for your stringer 800
