I am new to boating and have a couple of questions about trying to get my recently acquired '82 Renken restored to its former "glory". The boat was stored outdoors uncovered for a few years and the finish on the boat is now dull. Is there any special techniques to restoring a shine to its hull? Can I just use an automotive rubbing compound and wax? Also, where the port side double seat was (the seats where ruined and have been removed from the boat) there is a soft spot on the deck. It's about 1' square in size. Do these resin injection type of deck repairs work and would this be an acceptable method of repair for this small of an area.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Re: 1982 Renken 19' Open Bow Resurrection

I agree with Bond-O best dig a bit deeper. I have a 84 Renken 19 which had a soft spot in deck. I have scince found alot more hence why i have now got all the deck and stringer removed and also transom. The hull is least of ya problems but can be brought back if not damaged. I used 800 and then 1200 wet sand which got it to where i could buff it and get it like glass again. Use a marine grade buffing compound though not a automotive one. Do a small area first and see how it goes Finish with a good marine wax. Hope you find less rot then me but if not all can be put right with a bit of work and back up from this site.....
