I have a 35 HP 1982 Johnson Seahorse that's acting up. What happens: 1. I start the motor and go about my business, fishing from spot to spot for a few hours, shutting down and using the electric trolling motor at each spot. Start back up, go to next spot, etc. No probs, runs like a top.
2. I have lunch, or otherwise wait anywhere from an hour to six,
3. I start the motor, and it GUNS itself to almost full RPMs, even with the throttle lever at the lowest position. It takes about 5 minutes at full throttle for it to finally chug down to an idle. If I attempt to engage the motor in F or R before its fully calmed down it quits.
4. If I then wait another 6-12 hours, it starts and runs normally.
This cycle repeats. Anyone else experience this and know what needs to be done? Thanks!
