Hi i'm just working to start a dt85 that has been stood 10 years.I am working through each component. It's spinning on the starter, plenty of compression, spark, fuel into the carbs.
I am going to strip and free off the carbs next,as i guess they will need it.The cold start butterflies were all seized which i have managed to free off. They operate on the manual cold start lever on the carbs, but not automatically by the electromagnetic solenoid. How does this solenoid work? By a temp switch automatically,or do i have to engage it somehow?

the solenoid works by pushing the ignition key in while turning the key ....

You have a good engine there. I own a 1988 dt85 and love it. You are difinitely going to need to clean those carbs and since it has been sitting for so long I'd order a kit for them. I'd also do a complete breakdown and soak those carbs in a good cleaner for a couple of days then blow the jets and orifices out with pressured air. If you have any problems I believe it will be with the carbs. The fuel pump maybe ok but they are relatively cheap and you may want to go ahead and replace it but that's up to you. It maybe god since you are getting fuel to carbs. Good luck.

Thanks for your advice.Just to give you an update,i have got it running!!!
It's a little rough at the moment, but i am sure that i will sort it.
Running it with the muffs on to keep it cool, the engine sounds sweet. It's missing quite badly, but i think that may be down to the fact it's on gas and oil mixed.I did this until i was sure the oil injection works,it does so i am adding double oil.Keep getting wet plugs so that may be the same cause i guess.I am going to clamp off the oil feed pipe from the reservoir, just temporarily to see if the missing clears. if it does i will add new fuel and balance the carbs.
Many thanks for your help:cool:
