1982 Yamaha Virago 750

Can anyone tell me how to check the oil. I found a cap on the left side, but when I turn it out there is no dipstick on it. I checked to see if there was one on it before and it was broken, but it is not. Is there another way to check the oil on these bikes? Thanks.

I have a 2005 V-star and it has a sight glass on it. Is it possible they kept the same design?

Where is your sight glass located? I have not noticed one, but it may just be dirty. Im assuming that it would be on the same side that the oil fill would be on. Also, what do you use for oil?

The sight glass is below where the oil fill is I have to get down on hands and knees to see it. When sitting on the bike, left side.
I use SAE10W30. That's what the manual states.
