i have been having trouble with my1983 115hp evinrude motor all summer.

i can go out on the lake for a few hours and it works perfect , but if i decide to go ashore on a beach for a while and when i return to go out again the motor give me greef.it will start but when i put it in gear it decides to die on me. after a few tries it will come back to life again and will be fine until i shut it down again. ive clean the carbs, put new plugs in,put a new fuel line on and a new fuel pump. not sure on which way to turn next as i think i tried everything i know.any help and suggestions on the matter would be greatly appreciated.

Are you tilting the engine up when you beach it. It almost sounds like the carbs are leaking fuel and flooding the engine and when you get it started it clears itself out. Have the carbs ever been overhauled?

Sounds like a fuel issue. If you let the engine idle for a while in neutral does it still stall in gear?

Pull the airbox cover off before you beach it next time. When you tilt the engine up, visually check to see if any fuel/oil is leaking down the front the the carbs. If so, it will collect at the airbox drain and get recycled into the bottom cyl the next time you start-causing start up problems-similar to flooding.
