helping a friend,
1983 140 Johnson outboard, there are to many wires out of the tach need help
6 wires, also the pul/rev on the back what should it be on ? 2,3,4,5,6

there are 4 wires coming out of the tach

blue (loose)
purple (into control plug)
black (into control plug)
grey ( into control plug)

two wires look like there spliced inside the plug harness and are loose for maybe add-ons? black and purple

so the three going to the control plug are plug and play but there is still three other loose wires,
does anyone know where these loose wires blue, black and purple go ????

thank you

The extra loose wires (same color as plug wires) are simply to be used on engines that do not have the mate related plug.... insulate and tie them up somewhere.. The blue wire is for the light in the tachometer. Set the dial to #6.

for that motor it will always be pull/rev 6?
