I have a 1983 15 Evinrude and the guy in the shop says the upper mounts, beneath the powerhead and on the shaft, are gone and need replacing. They say that the powerhead needs to be removed, and lower unit. I have done water pumps on it before, what worrys me is the power head removal. Is this hard to do? The manual I have says remove flywheel, ingnition stuff then 6 or 8 bolts to get the head off. All that necessary? Should it be hard to get it off after bolts are removed? Any advice? Thanks Paul

Sailorman,

Powerhead removal is a snap. There is really not much to it.

Just make sure they/you replace the exhaust tower to p-head gasket.

I wouldn't think flywheel, etc. removal would be necesary. Just remove all the bolts attaching the p/h to the leg. Like djohns19 sez, should be a snap.

c/6

Hooty
