Hi, and thanks in advance for any help anyone can provide.

OK i have the wiring diagram in my manual, but for the life of me i can not understand how the ignition switch controls the engine, starting at the beginning
1) got engine, connected battery and touch red (live) and yellow ( starter solenoid), engine turned over freely, but the plugs were firing away like good ones, ( plugs out by the way so i could test compression )

so if the engine started.... how would you stop it ? remenber NO ignition switch just the ends on the loom, i would have thought that you would have to "switch a feed" to the prestolite system to get it to spark, or is it the case that the system shorts out the prestolite system, until you turn a key and then it allows it to "spark" totally confused , i am thats why i seek your advice

regards

Neal

The ignition switch doesn't really control the engine. The prestolite ignition is like a magneto ignition: If you were to crank the engine while disconnected from the cable to the switch, it would start and continue to run.

The white wire shorts the CD box to ground and prevents spark. SO> white wire goes forward to the "M" tyerminal on the ignition switch. Blue wire comes from other "M" terminla on the ignition switch. It bis jumped to ground at the engine terminal board. When you turn off the switch, the two "M" terminlas are in continuity and white goes to ground through blue. The engine stops.
