Can anyone tell me how to correctly reassemble a rebuilt 1983 60 Johnson tilt/trim unit? Do I just put it all together and hope it self bleeds or is there more to it?

Welcome to iboats ozblower!

The units are self bleeding but there is a way to do it. Once the TNT unit is back together and on the engine, raise the engine all the way up and fill the reservoir. Now cycle the engine up and down 3 to 4 times and leave it up. Top of the reservoir again and repeat the up and down cycle. Just remember to leave the engine all the way up when you check the reservoir.

You will probably have to add fluid as you raise the engine the first couple times if the reservoir is dry. And when you add fluid, put the plug in lose so air can escape. Once you get it to where you don't have to replace the fluid, it's full and ready to go.

G'day ozbower,
Did you rebuild it yourself? What parts were replaced/machined? How much AUD?
I have an 83 35hp seahorse. I think the TNT unit needs some work as it can't hold motor position.
If it is just seals, I will do myself.
Cheers,
Macca.
P.s Thanks for the info OBJ.
This is my first boat and the help from this site is awesome. My only problem is that I can't spend enough quality time with my boat as my better half gets jealous.
