1983 80 h.p. mariner problems

I just fixed the ignition on this mariner and but a new fuel line on it. We tested it on the water for the first time and it ran but would not go into gear without stalling. It would only run with the fast idle engaged. I have tested it for spark and it has spark on all 4 cylinders. Im assuming this is a fuel pump issue. Any suggestions? Thanks, mason

Masonmoore, I'm not so sure it is anything but a too low an idle RPM setting. That fact that you have to raise the idle some to get into gear without stalling seems to point in that direction. Is there anyway you can monitor the RPMs and post their setting here? That would help out a lot... JMHO!

gm280 no i dont have a tach... Would this explain why even when i got it in gear and turned off the fast idle it still stalled?

Barnacle_Bill how would i go about adjusting the idle? Would I adjust the idle limit screw on the side of the motor or would I have to adjust it under the flywheel?
