1983 80 hp merc cuts off after it warms up

my motor cranks fine, leave dock and after a few minutes it dies. lift up fast idle & choke it will crank but idles rough. When I put the fast idle down to put it in gear it dies. When its cold again it cranks fine then repeats the previous. what is wrong? Help!
