On my 1983 80 HP Mercury Serial number 6234182, I have replaced the stator and trigger because the wires were corroded and brittle. I need to know how to check the coils and if this can be done with a multimeter. I appreciate all the help. Thanks

Should read .01-.02 ohms between neg & pos terminals.
No reading between neg or pos terminal and coil tower.
Should read 57-73 ohms between tower and engine ground.

Understand, that a coil that passes the ohms tests, doesn't make it a good coil.

I have the same motor and I need to do the same. Any chance you could give some pointers on how to do this right. The reason I found out the wires wear all corroded and britle was because I thought I had a dead coil.
Thank you
Eric.
