I am looking at purchasing (first time buyer) a 1984 16ft Bayliner Capri Bowrider and it has a 1983 85hp Chrysler outboard. Can anyone advise if this is a good reliable engine, what the compression should be, any other advice??

Thanks

It's a good reliable motor, Rick, but it's about 20 years old. Depending on how it was maintained and used over those years, you know what I mean. It should have 130-150 compression. Bayliner with Chrysler...should be a bargain...real inexpensive. It could be a good rig if properly maintained over the years. There are a lot of older boats out there that have spent most of their lives in the barn...not many hours on the water, even so for the right price it could be a gem...just a Thought

get model# and serial# and call marinas and ask availability on parts such as dist cap , carb kit, starter, fuel pump kit, rotor, ect.

remember parts are hard to come by and you are also going to need a manual.
if you do buy and need parts let me know ill tell you where to look since i just spent 2 weeks searching on line and phone
icwebpeople@aol.com
