I have a newly acquired 1983 Chrysler Charger model # 908 V3B that will not circulate water from a tank or flusher at all.
It runs about 2 minutes, the buzzer sounds and no water exits the exhaust or the telltale.
I have freed the pressure relief valve which was stuck. I have also verified that the thermostat is wide open when hot and closed when cool.
I removed the Lower Unit and removed the impeller while snapping one of the longer bolts on the pump housing in the process. The impeller looks and feels fine. Also, no water in the oil.
So, I used the lower unit from my 1979 105 hp that always worked well.
Even with that lower unit in place, all conditions remain the same.
I then removed the LU again, the thermostat housing, and pressure relief valve. Then I back flushed the motor from the thermostat passages and the pressure relief opening. Water moved freely out of the telltale, the exhaust, and the impeller output tube. I also back flushed the Lower Unit (pump outlet to inlets). No clogs anywhere...
I am currently pursuing repair of the bolt and impeller replacemt on the original Lower Unit but I do not think that will change anything.
Motor starts easily and runs great until I shut it down because it is too hot to touch. Compression is 145 in all 4 cylinders.
I'm stumped!
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Dennis
