Those older engines normally had a recirculating hose leading from each cylinder to the intake manifold as I remember it. The upper cylinder at the terminal strip area connected to the intake manifold area of the lower cylinder... and the bottom cylinder at the terminal strip area to the intake manifold area of the top cylinder.
If my memory is flawed, I'm sure it'll be corrected.
