Did you check for fresh fuel, good spark? Whats the compression? As far as reading your post, sounds like it might be fuel related. Post back model # that will help us help you! good luck

this is a shot in the dark, but pull the air silencer off the carbs and see if any bugs made a nest in your intake... around here we have mud daubers that tend to find shelter in outboards... a buddy of mine lost a motor from sucking in a nest after winter once.

When cranking, are the spark plugs wet or dry? Use an inductive timing light to check for spark on all 4 plugwires when cranking the engine over. The flashes in the gun will show if you have good spark, intermittent, or no spark. If the spark is solid, then look at the fuel system.

ive rebuilt my carbs ,put in new plugs and put on a new fuel line.seems to be working fine ,except it acted up once on the lake and wouldn't start again.think it might be something to do with the fuel but not sure.any suggestions on what i can try next.
its a big puzzle to me.

Could be many things, I would start with the easy ones, gas tank vent, kill switch clip, quality fuel, new spark plugs. link n sync did something somehow loose adustment, throttle cable, throttle or timing advance? If it runs good at wide open throttle usually fuel pump, hose's and tank okay. could be ignition powerpack or a coil. Somtimes older motors start leaking a little crankcase vaccum which is most noticeable at idle, increasing idle RPM a little can help deal with that.

If you reprime the fuel hose bulb, will the boat start?
