I have a 1983 Evinrude 150 hp & the tilt/trim has a blue & a green wire on it. The OMC control & the tilt/trim switches on my boat all have 3 wires on them. How do I hook this up so the tilt/trim will work. Thx. Bob

Re: 1983 Evinrude 150 tilt/trim help

Good morning to you,
I am getting ready to install acomplete tilt/trim on my pontoon boat and I got everything, used though, for $255.00 including shipping in that price off of Ebay. When I got my trim unit it came with a relay box with different set of wires coming off of it do you have that with yours because if not your going to need one and your also going to need the long heavy guage harness which has 5 different wires in it wire which the diameter has the white/green, blue/white, and Red/white wire. Basically you just match the color of the wires to everything. It sounds to me that the blue wire and the green wire are your trim motor wire coming directly off your electric trim motor of your tilt/trim unit and that set of wires hooks into your fuse/relay box that I described above. Basically what I am trying to say is you must have a relay box for everything to go into and out of for it to work right because you can't go directly from the trim motor straight to the trim switch on the throttle controller up front in your boat.

Re: 1983 Evinrude 150 tilt/trim help

Like I said if you get the fuse/relay box alot of questions will be answered. The guy I bought my tilt/trim unit from was very helpful and has been working boats for years gave me his phone number and he talked me how to install this because I was confused were to put/install my fuse/relay box at. Basically my fuse/relay box installs on a mounting bracket running along the top of the carbs behind the air box and some not all those wires coming of the relay/fuse box connects to the terminal block on the side of your motor and he basically told me to just match the color of my wires to the wires on the fuse box it is according to him "idiot proof" and you just plug in all the wires into that fuse/relay box. He said the 2 red wires connect on your terminal block and you will already see 2 red wires connected to your termianl block that is where your 12 volts positive power is at and the black wire commig off your relay/fuse box gets connected to a really good ground on the motor. I was really impressed by this guy and he made it where I am pretty sure that I can do this. For me I am going to have to take my long deck railing molding off that runs from the front of the pontoon boat to the back that seperates the deck from the top of the tunes so I can run the long heavy guage wire harness he gave me and have it where it is hidden from view. I can't wait to do this job myself. And the bonus he gave me a belly switch he calls it that actually mounts on the lower motor cowling pan to tilt the motor up or down if your standing right there at the outboard motor and if you need to do any maintenance on it. So WOW he hooked me up and it was a deal I could not pass up.

Re: 1983 Evinrude 150 tilt/trim help (fixed,But new Problem)

Thx for the help, I got the relay box & hooked it up , Problem solved with the tilt/trim,everything works great on it. NEW PROBLEM THOUGH. I took the boat up to the lake yesterday to make sure that the motor & everything else with the tilt/trim would work on the water & when I got the motor running & started out on the lake, I opened up the throttle & the front end of the boat went straight up, I tried to plane it back down but it never did so although the motor & the tilt/trim seem to work just fine , I can't get the front of the boat to set down & level off when trying to get up to speed. It just seemed to make the front end go even higher when I gave it more gas. Any suggestions . Thx. Bob
