1983 Force 85hp fuel lie

Hi, I am wanting to replace the fuel line to the tank on my 85hp force. The line that is currently in place is 1/4" ID. Looking at parts on marineengine website it calls for 5/16". Obviously the fitting on the fuel pump is 1/4". Anybody have ideas what the correct diameter should be? Thanks!

1/4" is what they used on most Forces until Mercury started putting their equipment on them.

i agree 1/4 is fine and is what my 1985 engine had - i put 5/16 last time and it also worked but made no difference in performance.

1/4 is all the engineers needed when they made the motors.
They put it on all outboards, I think even the 150.
