I am looking to paint the benches of my boat. If you touch any part of the bench with bare skin you get that great Fiberglass itch. Any ideas as to what types of paint would work. The cheaper the better. I only use the boat on local lakes fishing with the family.

Re: 1983 Gamefisher paint question

only the first 2 pics working for me m8..

but looks like in your non-skid area. If so then tape off..prep with 80 grit, clean , roll on some gel-coat with griptex in it, peel tape immediatly. ( have a bunch of rags and some acetone handy juust in case you have to remix with more griptex )

If you do use gel make sure you mix a little waxsol with it.

PS. your color looks like an older boston whaler blue ( too bad your not near me..i have a couple quarts of it DOH ! )

Just the two pics work. The rest were mistakes LOL Someone told me I could just use Rustoleum since its not in the water. I got the boat for free from my inlaws. It sat for years in southern Fla. sun.Someone already painted the outer hull with who knows what. before my inlaws got it.

I have an '82 Gamefisher and that's just what I did. Mine was painted OD green most recently and was way too hot and itchy to use during the day here's what it looked like before:

Now it looks like this:

The Rustoleum went on well but because I used a roller and not a sprayer I had lots of junk in the paint. It was much better for the kids and my feet don't get burned anymore. The almond color does seem to stain grey a bit but I'd bet a little simple green would clean it up. Now I'm ripping the deck out so we'll see if the paint goes on better since I'm spraying it.
