I currently have a 305 with a cracked block and exhaust manifolds. I am going to upgrade to a reman. 350. Since my old exhaust manifolds are cracked which are the old log style, would it be possible for me to change these manifolds for the center riser manifolds which are less expensive than the old log types? Any help would be appreciated!

I have a stern drive and I believe it goes thru transom into upper unit and down thru pro?

Bondo... It is for a 1983 Mercruiser 898 model. The stern drive serial number is 6183013 with 1.5:1 ratio.

The reason he asked if is quiet is because typically a through transom exhaust is much louder than a through the prop exhaust. If it is through the transom you will probly have two exhaust ports above the water line that have flaps covering them. They are asking these questions to help you figure out your best options.

vipzach... I am new to boats( just bought my first boat last year). Not properly winterizing last Fall has been the cause of my problems now. I know there are not two exhaust ports above the water line so must be thru prop exhaust then? With the stern drive up... you can see the exhaust behind the stern drive on outside of boat. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: 1983 GM 350 cooling system

Sorry I started the quiet thing, but vipzach is right. Basically the answer to your original question is easier if you had thru-transom exhaust.

There are others here that may be able to answer this with the thru prop exhaust, but absent that you are going to need to start comparing parts etc. What you really need to compare is the manifold outlet you have now and it's location to the same on the new manifolds and how they are piped to the Y connector that heads to the outdrive. Also the water lines that connect to your existing manifolds will have to change too.
