I have a 1983 Johnson 75hp with trim and tilt. The control box I have does not have trim and tilt so I am trying to add a switch to control my trim/tilt. The trim motor works and is a 2 wire motor but the box with the 2 relays is destroyed. So my question is how do I wire the trim motor to the switch? Should I use relays or solenoids? And how would I wire them up? I have researched this for 2 days now and have not found anything that has worked. Thanks in advance!

No Title

The relays are standard Bosh style and the terminals will be marked as shown. The wires marked "to purple/green trim wire" go to the motor. Click on the image to enlarge.

It's the flow between terminals 85 and 86 that would make the relay click. So your either not getting the 12v+ to the one side or the switch isn't grounding the other side.

I have good ground at 87a and at 85 on the up relay and when I hit the switch in the up and good ground at 86 on the down relay when I hit the switch down. And 12v on the 4 terminals it's connected to but still nothing

Working with one relay at a time, do you have 12v + on the 86 terminal of the up relay when the switch is in the up position? Also what four terminals are you saying have 12v?

I'm afraid I have to log off now but will be back on tomorrow.

I have the relays wired up identical to the picture u sent me I meant to say I have good ground on 86 on the up relay when I hit the switch in the up position due to the fact that the switch is grounded.
Thanks for the help so far hopefully u can help me figure this out tomorrow!

I think I might have found you problem. The EP27 looks just like a Bosh relay (except for the numbers on the terminals) but it's actually a turn signal flasher.
They disguised it pretty well.
Get some relays and try again.;)
