1983 Mercruiser Sterndrive Trim Tilt Issue

My trim system does not hold pressure. Sterndrive will drop about 2 inches overnight and doesn't hold position when underway. I understand it could be the pump check valve or cylinder seals. Not sure where to start. No external loss of fluid.

Reseal the cylinders. If it still does it, it's the pump. Without a way to isolate each clyinder (special tools etc), no other way of doing it. But, it is very common for the older Prestolite pumps to have valve problems.

Rebuilding the Trim cylinders is an easy job. Costs are about $25 per cylinder. Most difficult is to get the end cap off. Use the proper tool and within 2 hours you can rebuild both.
