Hi. Everything I search about adjusting my boats tachometer down (says it idles at 3k and maxes out over 6k with just a little bit of gas), everyone says to mess with the 4-6-8 adjuster on the back and make sure it is pointed at 4. The problem is, I do not have an adjuster dial like that in mine.. is it too old? It says DetMar on the front, is that not an oem tach? ( it looks like it is). Any other ideas besides just replacing it? I already tried wiggling the grey wire back at the -neg side of the coil. Thanks in advance.

K so it then sounds your tach is a fixed type and is set such that it matches the signal source frequency. So if all the wiring/connectors/grounds has been checked, either the tach has went TU or the sig source has gone nuts. You'll have to test one or the other with a known.

A) Substitute a known good tach in place of the old.

or

B) Substitute a known good signal to the old tach.

Most likely the tach is TU, it probably can be fixed though if a matched replacement isn't easily had.....99% sure it can anyway, they aren't overly complicated.
