All:
I recently purchased a 1983 Glastron SSV-151 with an outboard mercury 50hp (no tilt trim, no nothing)and I have a few questions around this motor.
It only gets about 27mph MAX on smooth water with myself and another person (550 lbs) and WOT and I wonder if this is the best I can espect. I understand that it is only a 50hp so if that is the best then OK.
Another question: The motor runs great and starts the first time and blows NO smoke..it has some (only way I know how to explain) some larger 'fins' added over the prop. What are those for and what if anything do they add preformance wise?
Third and final (for now) What kind of prop can I put on there for better preformance?

I will say I love this boat and got what I belive to be a great deal (lake ready in awsome shape) but am wondering if I should put some $$$ into it and keep it for a while or enjoy it as is until I find another deal?

Thanks in advance for all your replied and insight. I am a first timer here.

Without a tach and an accurate speedometer, you have no idea what wide open throttle rpms is so we have no idea what to recommend. The key to performance is to use a prop that allows the engine to run at the manufacturers maximum WOT RPM. For that engine its probably about 5500 RPM. If the engine runs faster than that, you can increase pitch to bring the rpm down a little. If its under that, you need to decrease pitch to bring rpm up.
