My boat was sitting for a good 6 months without running with a full tank of gas and no addative added. When I got the boat out of storage. I drained the fuel tank but some gas was still left in the tank unusable I am assuming. Checked plugs used some engine starter fluid and it ran pretty good. When we got it to the water it ran ok but would not go full power at all it was lagging and the ball was somewhat soft. It ran better if someone pumped the ball but still lagged with power. I am probably going to change out the inside of the fuel pump but other than that I don't know what to do. It runs just not good. Any ideas....

Hi Tazman,

I've got an 85 120 with some problems too. I do know you shouldn't use starting fluid because cylinders don't get lubed. But beyond that, do you have a water separator or fuel filter you could check? Otherwise, might have to check out them carbs. Good luck

PS This should put your post up at the top of the list for someone more experienced to answer. Might need more details though.

I'd start by removing the carbs and giving them a thorough cleaning. It doesn't take much to clog a carb jet and totally impair performance. If pumping the bulb forces enough fuel into the engine for it to run better, then you probably either have a blockage or air leak somewhere between the bulb and the cylinders. Most likely a blocked carb jet.

Good luck.
