Ok so here is the deal bought this boat and motor a few months ago, got it home and runs decent but doesn't idle the way it should. Here are items I have addressed.
Bought new lower unit fluid just to make sure seals were good.
Bought new plugs and installed them.
Bought new wires and installed them.
Bought new caps and installed them.
Runs great blasting across the lake but when I want to trim up and go through a channel or going into the dock it will die out. And even trimmed all the way down it still isn't smooth it sounds like its sputtering but continues to run.

When is the last time the carbs were serviced? Have you made any fuel mixture changes to try and help it idle more smoothly?

I did some sea foam and the guy said he put new carbs on previous season?

The guy that sold me my boat told me that the carb was just rebuilt....and I found out that I'm completely missing a couple gaskets. Just saying.

Unusual that the prior owner changed the carbs. Are the replacments carbs the same size as the ones that were on the powerhead originally? Usually no reason to change carbs, just overhaul them with new carb kits and use a good fuel cleaner that will dissolve dried fuel deposits. Sounds like the carb floats may not be adjusted properly. An intermittent miss at idle may be the "lean sneeze" -a dirty carb issue, not ignition.

Bonair- I hear ya there I have thought that as well but I know nothing of marine motors so a little wary of taking it apart on my own?

Em he said same size as original but the marine tech said that they were just to shot to re-kit...and I knew this was no ignition issue but with 4 year old plugs and ancient wires and boots as old as I am I figured I would get it out of the way!
