1984 5.7l with omc wants to stall in reverse only

hi guys i have a wellcraft with a omc outdrive n 5.7l motor which runs good in forward n neutral but when i put it in reverse the engine starts broken down n wants to stall
any ideas thanks

On the shift converter box there should be a switch which by-passes the interrupter module after the drive is fully in gear.
