Re: 1984 50hp merc ignition problem
John,

I just had some problems with my 1991 115hp mariner. I have just got a book on my motor and it made it real easy to do all the test on the system. I will give you all the info from my book to get you back in the water.

Lets first make sure the stator is working. The book reads as follows for you motor. We will do the stator test first.

1. Disconnect the stator leads form the switchbox.
2. Connect a ohmmeter between the blue and blue/white stator leads. With the meter set on Rx100 scale, it should read 5,700-8000 ohms.
3. Connect the ohmmeter betweem the red and red/white stator leads. With the meter set on the Rx1 scale, it should read 56 to 76 ohms.
4. Connect the ohmmeter between the blue stator lead and a good engine ground. With the meter set on the Rx 1,000 scale, the should be no continuity.
5. Repeat Step four with the red stator lead. There should be no continuity.
6. If the stator assembley performs as specified in each step, reconnect the leads to the switchbox. If

it does not, replace the stator Assembley.

Let me know how you make out.
Stalker
