Ok, Thanks for the parts,, An the trigger won't come out cause I can't get the part that the flywheel bots too off,, I don't know if the big nut in the middle has got to come off then the part or if that part unscrews, Cause it has threads inside it,,

Your model has a two piece flywheel, you have removed the outer (big) section but you must remove the hub bby removing the center nut, screwing the correct Merc style puller into the hub center. Then you will be able to R&R the trigger assy.

Have you downloaded a copy of the correct service manual for your motor? Check out the very first posting in this forum, 'Merc Manuals ****Sticky Please***'
part way down there is a link to all the Merc manuals available for free download.

The free Merc Manuals did cover my motor after much guessing on which one was my model. But before I did the free download I was able to find a manual here:

632 pages, 49.0 MB and they only charged $5.49 with PayPal. Not bad.

They had some rules:
DO NOT GIVE THAT CODE TO YOUR FRIENDS - OR SYSTEM WILL CUT-OFF BOTH OF YOU!
IF YOU GIVE THAT CODE AWAY - YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO DOWNLOAD YOUR MANUAL FOR 48 HOURS!
ONLY ONE IP ADDRESS WILL BE ALLOWED TO DOWNLOAD THE MANUAL!

YOU HAVE SEVEN (7) DAYS TO DOWNLOAD YOUR MANUAL!

Downloaded it and it is the same as the free one:facepalm: but thats okay ... I paid for it so I am legal as far as I know

Re: 1984 75hp Merc Trigger & Stator

Its funny that none of the manuals seem to show the flywheel as the two part deal but I get it now. Since I took mine apart (without the proper Merc tool), I had to do mine the old fashion way (probably would have worked with the flywheel on). Anyways, here is what I did:

1. After flywheel was removed by removing the eight retaining bolts, mark the trigger and any part you can as a reference to where the motor is aligned to before taking anything off. I took the spark plug out of #1 and moved the flywheel until it was at its maximum compression stroke nearest the spark plug threads.

2. Using a 15/16" impact socket I impacted it off quickly (normal reverse or lefty Lucy).

3. After removing the large flywheel retaining nut I got out my pulley puller but realized I needed to go to the hardware store to get some longer bolts as the stock ones are too short.

4. Buy two 3" long 5/16" x24 thread bolts and add a little larger washer to each. Mine cost all of 85?. Using the 0 and 180 degree slots instead of the thirds slots, thread the puller into the

5. I used the impact wrench to thread the pulley removers center shaft quickly into the puller tool and out popped the part needed to remove the trigger assembly.

6. You will need to remove the arm from the front of the motor that moves the trigger assembly. I taped mine so that it would not twirl around too much.

7. Push the trigger wires and trigger arm up thru the retaining part and there you have it ... your trigger is free at last ... free at last (now throw it away and put a new one in).

Assembly is basically reverse of this with the exception that you need to make sure you line up the keyed part of the crankshaft to the cut out keyed part of the fly wheel retainer.
