I'm sure it's here somewhere, but i'm going to ask anyway.

I have never worked on an outboard and have never done a compression check. I have a Seloc book for Force outboards and it states to remove the spark plugs and ground the wires to the block.

My biggest question is, What is the best/ easiest way to ground the wires to the block ?

Is this the proper method for checking the compression? I was told to only remove one plug at a time and check that cylinder. I'm more inclined to believe the book.

I have no experience working on outboards so all help will be very appreciated.

I've always pulled all plugs, left them attached to the plug wires, and then used alligator clip leads to connect the plug to ground.

If you jump the solenoid from red to yellow with the ignition switch off, there is no need to ground the plugs as there will be no spark. Thus: No danger of damaging the CD boxes.

To check compression, remove all four plugs. It doesn't matter what position the throttle is in. Open or closed, it will read the same.

Thank you all for your help.

JB, I did do a search and got so much junk back it was easier just to ask. I did not check frequently asked questions. I will try to remember that in the future.

Thank you for the link.

Can't you just deactivate the kill switch on the lanyard that you attach to your self when running the boat?

Either way will work, however, I like to be back at the engine and jump the solenoid, that way I am not running back and forth for each cylinder check.
