Most times when trying to start my engine the solenoid sticks and continues to crank the starter even if the motor is running. i must remove the battery cable to stop this condition. If i put the key to run position and jump the solenoid with a screw driver it runs fine and then i can shut it off with the key. I just replaced the solenoid a few weeks back. could it be defective or is there another problem.
Thanks Chris

Disconnect the cable between the solenoid & starter, turn key like normal
Now check with volt-meter if you still have power going through the solenoid
IF..yes it could be two things; one faulty solenoid OR two Faulty ignition-switch (this can be verified by checking for voltage in the (small) power wire on the solenoid)

That sounds like the key/ignition is sticking??
Unhook the battery first.

Spray WD-40 in the ignition switch.
Activate the switch, a few times and then spray again.
Then hook up the hose and then try to start.
