I am continuing my boat search beyond my latest post. I stumbled across a 1984 Alumacraft with side console and powering it is a 1984 40hp Mariner outboard. The owner said a few of the rivets are leaking but that is the only thing wrong with the boat. The motor runs great, 135 psi in both cylinders. It also includes a 35lb trolling motor. Asking price is $1900, seems a little low compared to other boats i have seen on CL. Should I trust that only the rivets are leaking? I would be willing to replace every rivet in the boat if that is the only issue. Let me know what you all think. Thanks again for the help!

I assume there is some kind of a wood floor? Probably carpet covered? Check that well, I would assume it's probably getting pretty rotten at this point.

No decking or wood whatsoever in the boat. He circled the few rivets that are leaking already.

How difficult would it be to move the side console forward a little more?

Longer steering cable and control cables, maybe motor harness cable too.

Plus the rivet/fab work to move the console and adjust the helm seat accordingly

W no wooden deck, hows the side console and seat stup now?

A pix or 3 would probably help

No Title

It looks like the console is far enough back to sit on the rear seat. I am going to look at it tomorrow.

Bumped for what? Low price or leaking rivets?

If you think its low priced, then for you it is. Pricing is extremely location driven. In most of the US, now is a bad time to sell, but can be a great time to buy. That'll swing the other way across most of the US as warmer spring weathr approaches.

If its an open utility john w no deck (floor) then identifying and fixing leaking rivets wll be fairly easy and straight forward.

Sorry guys, I'm very new to boats and not veteran forum guy either. I went to look at the boat today, the owner was not able to make it so he had someone show me the boat. There is a lot of 5200 on the bottom but I would probably be looking to replace leaky rivets with SS truss bolts anyways. He has to clean the carb and then he will start the motor for me. Everything else worked and there is a lot included in the sale. I know prices vary but if the motor runs good is $1900 a good deal for 1648 jon, 40 hp Mariner, trailer, 35lb minnkota trolling motor, side console, throttle mount, spot lights, 2 interstate batteries, fish finder, anchor, life jackets, gas tank, water separator, 2 bilge pumps, im sure I am forgetting something but what do you think? Thanks again for the help in advance.

No, 1900 doesnt sound overpriced, if the motor runs.

If the rivet replacement doesn't seem a challenge, and it shouldnt

As with anything else it's only worth what some is willing to pay for it. If it's been sitting for sale for some time then it's probably over priced for your area.

Go back and look over those marked rivets closely. Remove some of the goo if you can and see if you can wiggle the rivet. Rivets can always be replaced with oversize if need be. Then decide if it's something you'd want to take on.
