Hello everyone! New to the forum and seeking help with any information about a 1984 Chris craft scorpion. I haven’t seen the boat yet, planning on going Saturday. The gentleman did send pictures which I will post. It’s a stern drive and hasn’t been in the water for two years by the sound of it. The gentleman claims it’s in salad shape and it would really be a fishing boat that I will trailer and use on Lake Erie.

My buddy said he recommended staying away from that because sometime in the 80s Chris-Craft change their whole design? But he wasn’t certain about what year it happened… I’m looking for any useful information from anyone who has an opinion on this boat. Thank you very much

Chris Craft changes models every few years

Mostly runabouts, picnick boats and pocket cruisers

Recently they have been making center console boats

the mid 80s boats would not have been laid out for fishing

Mid 80s were when OMC owned them

If it has an OMC drive, like Bondo said, you dont want it

Also keep in mind, boats tend to sit when they have a problem. Expect that there is a significant problem with the 32-35 year old boat, specifically with transom and stringer rot

Thanks everyone. Ended up passing in that when I neighbor practically gave me his Cobia center console. It’s a complete restoration project that I will hopefully be documenting somewhere on the forum!
