I just bought one on ebay for really inexpensive and am planning on rebuilding it. My question is i have a 1983 powerhead on my FORCE outboard and want to make sure they are interchangable. I only paid 50 bucks for it so it was a find and i assume that since its only a year off that its practically the same unit. THanks for the help.

ALL Chrysler and Force three and four cylinder powerheads will physically bolt up to the same midleg. Earlier Force and late Chrysler also have the same ignition systems so around 1984 there is no problem. Only problems that arise are when you are swapping a late model Force for an earlier model. The late models had Mercury ignition and the flywheel and stator mount are different as is the oil recirculation (cylinder drain) system.

Thanks frank, I assumed that i would be ok becuase the units look identical in every way. Thanks again and im sure ill be asking alot of questions during the rebuild of this power head. Hey for 50 bucks and the 500 or 600 to rebuild, i think i got a great deal plus i have two so when one goes out, I can switch and have a new one, then rebuild the other. I couldnt pass it up for the money, Thanks again

You might see a slight difference in crank seals. Newer years use rings instead of grooves alone.....Gives Frank credit for that one ;) But they are interchangeable
