This is what I am thinking of buying. 1984 Glastron 16' w 90 HP evinrude.
see:http://slo.craigslist.org/boa/1148632356.html

Purpose; fishing/ waterfun/ teenage boys skiing and tubing.

What should I be looking for on my inspection ?
90HP looks okay- w/out doing compression test any good way to evaluate?

How about the deck/ floor of interior? What should I be inspecting?

Any last minute advice you can give a boat-buying novice ?

Thanks for any and all feedback.
Thanks-

I'd buy that boat in a heartbeat. Just check and make sure the floors are solid and the transom doesn't flex. You should be able to run the motor on muffs. I think the best way to buy a boat from a private seller like this is eyeball everything as best you can. If it looks good strike a deal with the seller but make it contingent on a successful test drive. This assures the seller you aren't a tire kicker and protects you from any major issues. If I was selling my boat I'd be happy to go on a final ride on it with the buyer and point things out.

Thanks for the encouragement and response.
Done !!
Bought it.
It turns out that it is a 1982 Glasstron not 1984.- see this photo-http://www.classicglastron.com/82gl-ssv151.htm

Didnt really matter to me. Great little beginner boat- small and lightweight ( ~ 7OO lBS), easy to manuever and tow. My boys and I should have fun with it.
Sellers did put earmuffs on and she fired right up- water ran through clean and easy- no oil in the discharge water.
THere was some water in the ski locker in the floor- I opened it up, sucked it out dry and then left it open to dry out. A few extra stringers in the floor may help support some areas that appear weak.
Transom looks solid.
I am planning to take the boat to get the 90HP "serviced"- and just an overall check-up from an experienced boat mechanic.
I will post more pictures once I get her on the water.
Thanks again

Glastron makes the best boats on the water! Great choice, I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoy mine!

But...I may be a bit biased.

I only have 2 Glastrons: V153 and V163 both 1971. They were the originator of the deep vee hull and were extensively copied in the early years. Light and fast and sharp looking. My 153 gets 43 MPH GPS with a 90 Chrysler on the back.

Re: 1984 Glastron w 90 HP evinrude

My grandfather started me out in his Glastron when I was a kid. It was a late 60's early 70's closed bow v-hull. I have a lot of good memories going out on that boat with my grandfather. When he died my grandma had to sell it to help pay for things and I was away in the military and did not have a chance to buy it. I did buy my own just recently. Its not the same thing but close, and so far my kids are enjoying just as much as I am. I like my Glastrons as well. Wish I had the money for one of their new deck boats.
