Engine starts and idles fine but when I throttle up it is just not reaching top speed. I have put sea foam in the gas just in case the fuel was no good. I have pumped the primer bulb while at full throttle with no change in speed. The bulb does not get hard prior to starting. I am about to change my inline filter and check the gas line connections. I think the filter is clogged I tried to get it off by hand and could not. So I am buying a filter wrench tonight. I am guessing that filter has not been changed. I looked at spark plugs and they seem fine. Any other suggestion would be welcome. Boat is serviced professionally every year just don?t want to call the mechanic if it?s something I can fix.

In my experience, sputtering at higher speeds is usually caused by spark plugs. Good Luck

That is a good point and cheap enough to try. Do you know where I can find what plugs go with a 1984 Johnson. I am not near the boat but would like to buy them off Cape . I want to make sure they are the right size and gaped correctly Not sure what is in the engine now and would rather work off of correct specs
