I recently purchased our boat and I notice that after we shut the engine down, there is a gas slick (smells like gas) in the water. It doesn't last very long, but gives a slick of a couple feet radius.

Is this normal?

Probably not. How does the engine run?
1.Look for loose connections at the fuel line engine connector or leaks in the fuel line.
2.Check for stuck open floats in 1 or more carbs.
3.Check for leaking (internally) fuel pump diaphragms.

The engine runs great. I had cleaned and rebuilt carbs earlier because of a rough idle (wasn't the problem at the time, it was rotten fuel lines).

I'll do the other checks. Thanks.
