Just picked up a 84 Mariner 40 HP Outboard along with a jon. Engine runs good but when I put it in the water I noticed an oily substance and after parking it in my garage there was a puddle of blue oil which looks to be coming from the exhaust ports maybe? Not real sure but I added a photo below. I have searched and read several things on google but I don't know if this is the same thing I am seeing. I'm guessing I'll have to pull the lower and possibly replace a few O rings. I should mention the oil is not milky at all. Thanks for the help in advance.

It said my files were to large, I will upload the photos tomorrow from work. But it's leaking from the 2 small holes on the front part of the lower unit.

Dark + oily that smells like gas, is normal.

If it smells like grease, you need to check it out.

If only it were that simple and easy.

You need to drop the lower unit and replace the water pump impeller anyway.

Definitely smells like grease. I was hopeful for a second. I am going to drain it tomorrow and pressure test it. I'll report back as soon as I do.
