Hi,

My Mariner (really a 4 cylinder Merc in grey clothing) is driving me nuts. It starts and idles well, the throttle response seems pretty good and it runs like mad over 4000 RPM but at cruse speeds of 2500 - 3500 RPM it surges, almost like it's running out of gas.

I've got the service manual, every things setup by the book carb and timing wise. I've played with low speed jets quite a bit. I had it running pretty well last week, the only thing I found odd is I had to run the bottom carb a hair over a turn from seated, the top one is around 1 3/4 turns. It does tend act up more with a few people in the boat vs. just me but just to blow a hole in that theory it was doing it today with just me and my 6 year old son in the boat.

I was thinking fuel pump but wouldn't it run poorly at WOT?

Any ideas?

Thanks,

K

Rebuild fuel pump and reinspect the float setting. Also make sure the bowl gasket is new as a air leak around emulsion tube can cause this...

I'll get a pump kit, I'm sure what's in there is original.

The bowl gaskets are pretty much new, when I had them apart a month ago or so they came apart with out sticking. I can get new ones but I'm guessing they're OK.

Thanks!
