I'm trying to remove the lower unit in order to rebuild the unit with new seals and replace the impellar. It has been sitting in salt water for years and it is stuck tight. Before I get a bigger piece of wood and a bigger hammer, i want to make sure I'm not missing anything that is still holding the lower unit in place. I removed the anode bolt, 2 nuts above the prop, loosened the 2 nuts on the sides, and removed the nut towards the rear of the lower unit. I can't find any thing else that is holding it up in the exhaust housing. Any info is greatly appreciated.

There is a bolt UNDER the anode bolt.
Not sure if you removed too.

The marine shops use very thin wedges that is if you have all nuts and bolts off... I had this problem with my 2005 115h.p. four stroke...I pounded for a hour sideways and carefully on top of the cav plate with a rubber sledge hammer... if you are not careful you will break this aluminum..once i got a little daylight, I used very thin heavy duty putty knives on each side..kept hitting them in and they eventually forced the lower unit down...you have to drop the lower unit yearly, grease the splines to stop what has happened to you especially from salt water use... Also be prepared to wire brush the studs that the nuts go on as they are part of the problem too with all their salt water corrosion..good luck...Steve

There is 1 nut on the very front. 2 nuts behind that one. 2 bolts behind that. The anode (trim tab) bolt. And 1 more bolt hidden under the anode.
I thin k you may have forgotten that very front nut.

Thanks steve for the helpful imput. I got this 17' Imperial on craiglist for $100. Separated the boat top and hull to lay down new floor and transom. New seats and paint is next. I rebuilt the carbs and got stuck with the lower unit and the frozen S.S. prop. Took many pics of my restoration project, but did'nt post them yet. Mike
