I purchased a cottage and came with 1984 sylvan boat with evinrude outboard. Unfortunately no keys found. Where can I find the key code to see if dealer has a key that fits?
Key in picture is not the correct key for it. Dealer asked for pics but what is he looking for?

Normally there is a code number on the control, usually hidden on the back or some where not easily seen. A dealer should be able to get a key with that code number. The other option is to replace the ignition switch with a new one as it will come with 2 keys.

In that lot would be a key that works for mine? Based on the year? I’m all for it just don’t want to spend $40 and it ends up being wrong keys.

Well, I've seen and used the dealers key ring and that's what it looked like. Being eBay not sure but it say like 100 something sold. Once you find the right key any key person can make you copies. Here's the thing though, those key switches do go out. So purchasing a new switch that comes with 2 keys provides you with more stuff for the same cost or maybe even less. Also, inorder to replace the switch you have to pull your control box, open it up and undo/redo a bunch of wires. Takes some time and there is a little bit of knowledge needed. Not sure how mechanical you are. Not sure where you are but here's the thing. (Omc)Evinrude is out of business but there are dealers who still sell omc parts. Your going to need to either find the key number or take the box/boat to one of those dealers. Otherwise here a YouTube video of how to replace the switch. Evinrude used that box for many many years but then switched to a new kind. If you buy a switch make sure it's the old style. Sorry I do not have the part number.
