Ok, I have a really dumb question, but I need to ask anyway. I'm sure many other 80's model boats are similar so this isn't just for Wellcraft owners.

I purchased my Wellcraft 180 American a few months ago, and have just today taken the time to tune it up and replace some parts. I started the engine up and it runs, but I have a silly question.

Is there any way on this boat to increase the throttle without actually engaging the gear drive? Other boats I have had have a push button on the shifter that keeps the prop from engaging or something similar, but I couldn't find anything like that. The only thing on the shifter is the trigger thingy on the bottom side of the handle that you have to squeeze to shift. I had the prop off while I was working, but thought it might make things tough when I am at the boat ramp and have to throw it into gear just to keep the engine running.

So, am I am moron, or what? Thank you.

Every handle is somewhat differant then the next one..... some have a push button and some you grab the handle with your fingers like you would be pulling it off it's pivot point. I had an I/O that you grabed the handle and pulled out (like you would remove a window crank handle on a car) and that disengaged the shift linkage.

No question is dumb ;)

Haha, yep that was it. I tried a bit but it was very sticky, just needed to use a bit more force and it popped out a little.

Thanks.
