I was wondering if anyone could steer me in the right direction for an overhaul kit for my 150 hp xr2 other than factory (price), and do I need to find a machine shop that does outboard work, or would a regular automotive machine shop be able to bore/hone my block? Thanks for any help.

Re: 1985 150 Blackmax overhaul

Not being in your area I can't point you a shop, but I can tell you that a normal automotive shop will NOT usually have the knowledge to do outboards. That said, if you find one you like, just tell them the bore size that you want the holes (cylinders) and leave them ONLY the block, don't give them the pistons.

You may or may not be aware that if you have a cylinder/piston that is in need of repair you don't have to re-bore all the holes, just the one/s you need to repair.

Good luck,

Chris.......
