Both engines and outdrives are removed. The stringer is saturated and rotten up to the fuel tank and no telling how much farther, cant get to it. With a mercruiser outdrive, which pushes on the transom, must the stringer be solid in front of the engine mounts? The boat is pretty nice beside the transom and stringers. Might need to haul a decent appearing boat to the dump.

Thanks for the reply. I'm wondering if replacing the stringers up to about 1 feet in front of the engine mounts will work. I'm wondering if the wood inside the fiberglass of the stringer in front of the engine serves any purpose.

On my 26' the fuel tank compartment under the aft cabin had no drain and the stringers there rotted out even though the ones in the engine compartment were OK. I discovered the rotted stringers because I got stress cracks in the hull. Luckily they were only small cracks.

The wood in front of the engine supports the hull shape and strength, so yes it does something
