I have a 40HP Evinrude where the engine while raised gradually lowers itself and the hydraulics dont hold it up for long. The Mechanic said it would cost more to repair the seals etc on the rams than the motor would be worth.... so, any ideas on where I can purchase a second hand ram and / or PTT assembly to suit?

Any suggested supliers wreckers anyone knows of that may have one sitting around that will fix my problem economically

Mike....get a OEM manual and rebuild the cylinders yer self. Not that bad a job and the manual will guide you step by step. The o'ring kit for the cylinders are under 5 dollars (if I recall right). Spend around 30 dollars for the manual and 10 to 15 for parts.....makes the engine worth keeping.

This was told to me by an OMC mechanic. Try loosening the manual release screw & then push the lower unit down. This sometimes clears out dirt in the system clogging valves.
What I found on my 40 is after raising the motor just touch the down button & the motor will stay in place. I'm sure at some point I'll need to rebuild. I already have the manual, but I didn't know the parts to fix would be so cheap or that it was a relatively easy job. When my trick stops working I'll rebuild.
