1985 50HP Rude Fuel Pump

I removed the VRO this weekend because of a oil problem. Installed a new "normal" fuel pump. The new pump doesn't pump any gas and the motor wouldn't start. I could use the primer buld on the tank to fill the carbs but, could get enough gas to the primer/choke. Even with the output side of the pump disconnected no gas pumped out while cranking it over.

Did you verify that the fuel pump port on the block was indeed open? The fuel won't work with out a pulse.

I checked to make sure the port was open.

Is there a way to tell if there is enough "pulse"?<br />Is it pressure or vaccuum?
